Format & Points System

Tournament Format

The tournament format is as follows:

Teams have been divided into Gentlemen’s and Players’ Sections reflecting their likely abilities on the field. In the Players Section the five teams will play each other in the league stage of the tournament and will be positioned in a league table according to points gained, wins achieved and net run-rate off the bat. Teams that finish in positions 1 and 2 will go into the Cup Final.

In the Gents’ Section the five remaining teams will play each other and will also be positioned in a league table on the same basis. Teams that finish in positions 1 and 2 will go into the Shield Final.

There will be a total of 22 matches over the two days with 12 matches played on Saturday and 10 matches played on Sunday so most matches will be played in pairs.

Teams will need to be ready to play their matches well in advance and the order of some matches may be adjusted depending on teams’ travel arrangements.

Points System

Four (4) points will be awarded to the winning side. If the game is tied, both teams will receive two (2) points.

Bonus points are awarded for scoring 70 runs or taking four or more wickets. The winning team will gain a point for reaching their target in four overs or less; the losing team will gain a point for reaching 80 per cent of their opponents’ score or taking the match into the fifth over.

Spirit of Cricket

Preamble to the Laws of Cricket:

Cricket owes much of its appeal and enjoyment to the fact that it should be played not only according to the Laws, but also within the Spirit of Cricket.

The major responsibility for ensuring fair play rests with the captains, but extends to all players, umpires and, especially in junior cricket, teachers, coaches and parents.

Respect is central to the Spirit of Cricket.

Respect your captain, team-mates, opponents and the authority of the umpires.

Play hard and play fair.

Accept the umpire’s decision.

Create a positive atmosphere by your own conduct, and encourage others to do likewise.

Show self-discipline, even when things go against you.

Congratulate the opposition on their successes, and enjoy those of your own team.

Thank the officials and your opposition at the end of the match, whatever the result.

Cricket is an exciting game that encourages leadership, friendship and teamwork, which brings together people from different nationalities, cultures and religions, especially when played within the Spirit of Cricket.
